OMIG-Assisted Investigation Leads to Arrest of Queens Dentist in Alleged $300,000 Medicaid Fraud Scheme
A Queens dentist was arrested and charged Sept. 28 following an OMIG-assisted investigation into an alleged scheme to defraud Medicaid of more than $300,000 by submitting false claims for hundreds of dental procedures that were never performed.
Suleman Nasimi, 46, of Hicksville, Nassau County, and his dental practice, Tooth Fresh Meadows were charged following an investigation by the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit with assistance from OMIG.
The investigation found that Nasimi allegedly submitted false Medicaid claims for dental procedures involving at least 35 recipients between January 2020 and August 2024. The claims included root canals and porcelain crown installations that investigators determined were never performed. In July 2022 alone, Nasimi allegedly billed Medicaid for more than $140,000 in procedures while his office was closed and he was away on vacation in England, France and Greece.
According to prosecutors, several patients were denied approval for necessary dental treatment because Medicaid records indicated Nasimi had already performed and billed for procedures he allegedly never performed.
Nasimi and Tooth Fresh Meadows were arraigned on two separate 40-count felony complaints with one count of grand larceny in the second degree, two counts of health care fraud in the second degree, two counts of health care fraud in the third degree and 35 counts of offering a false instrument for filing.
If convicted of the top charge, Nasimi faces a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in state prison.
The charges filed in this case are accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
